Mad Cap Bohemian Pilsner | Tenacity Brewing

Flint, Michigan may have a poor reputation to some, but it offers a lot for visitors and locals to enjoy. Although it’s best known for its 2014 water crisis back, this didn’t stop Tenacity Brewing from opening in 2015 as the city’s first brewery. Housed in a reclaimed fire station near the University of Michigan-Flint and the Farmers Market, Tenacity Brewing offers beer lovers a must-try in its Mad Cap Bohemian Pilsner.

A Cooling, Playful Experience

With a gorgeously clear gold color, the Mad Cap catches the eye right from the get-go. It draws you in and tastes as refreshing as it looks. On the nose, it doesn’t have much aroma at all, not that you’d expect a Pilsner to have much of one. When you drink it, though, it lifts your palate with a cleansing combination of moderate crisp, cracker-like malt, and a subtle mint-like hop flavor.

It’s neither complex nor simple, offering an excellent beer to both analyze and crush depending on your mood. A medium carbonation and light body further add to this cleansing, refreshing feeling. By the time you finish it, you’ll be ready for another one.

Tenacity Brewing’s limited menu features freshly made Detroit-style pizza, which pairs perfectly with the Mad Cap. The salty dough enhances the malt flavors, while the brew’s lightness balances the pizza’s richness. Whether you’re sitting outside in the Biergarten during summer or cuddled up on the lounge seating in winter, this is a crisp beer you’ll want to have stocked in your fridge.

A Modern Hub for Fun and Flavor

Tenacity Brewing was a blast to visit, even during the off-season. The brewery is always abuzz with activity, especially in the summer. With beer and yoga, axe-throwing, and weekly cigar events, there’s plenty to enjoy on top of the quality beer. A visit to Tenacity Brewing isn’t just about great beer; it’s about celebrating Flint’s unique culture and the resilient people who make it thrive.

I've been enjoying and writing about craft beer for a long time. I enjoy a good Hefeweizen, Märzen, and crisp Helles Lager any time of year!
